Energy Companies Raising Prices Simply For Profit

Many energy companies have recently been under review by Ofgem, the company who polices such markets. The problem is that, despite rising profits, many companies have continued to raise prices, many of which have been doing so completely unfairly and simply to raise profits even further.

In two months alone in late 2010 energy company profits rose by 38%, a figure that seems just a little bit overinflated. Not only does it look like we have been paying unfairly high prices for our energy, but it looks like we have been doing so at a time when we have less expendable money and have been investing more and more of our taxes into future energy options.

However, not all companies are raising prices unfairly, and therefore it is more important in light of these findings that it has ever been before to ensure that you shop around for your energy supplies. Whether it is for domestic energy or commercial gas and electricity, the potential savings are immense, and for larger companies the savings on commercial gas and electricity could be in the thousands.

If prices were rising and profit margins remaining even, then the vast hike in prices would not seem so unfair, but as the raise in prices seems almost on a par with the hike in costs that consumers are paying, the vast rise seems almost certainly to be unfair.

With business gas prices set to rise up to 25% over the next few years anyway, raising prices simply for profit is completely unethical, and therefore for all companies it is wise to look around for the cheapest supplier of business gas. Many companies could find themselves saving up to 80% on their energy bills by doing so rather than paying more and more with companies simply out to make more and more profit.
